May is National Community Action Month The National Community Action Foundation has declared May to be National Community Action Month. While we have always promoted our services, May allows community action agencies across the country to work in sync to maintain a national presence and focus attention on the issues of poverty and their consequences. As May approached, Washington-Morgan Community Action enjoyed television, radio, and newspaper coverage focusing on our various programs, their effect on the community, and the support of our elected officials. When May arrived, banners were prominently hung along roadsides and buildings to get the attention drivers who may not be aware of us. Window displays of past deeds and accomplishments were exhibited at street level to notify pedestrians. Activities were planned between children in our Head Start program and seniors in the community. In addition, all out-going mail notably displayed more contact information than usual to reach people. Because Community Action also works closely with the local governments in the area, our impact to the region was acknowledged. In recognition for all the accomplishments in Washington and Morgan Counties, the city of Marietta and the city of Belpre honored our agency with proclamations recognizing our commitment to servicing community needs. The media also recorded this event. May is the one month we use to expand public awareness of what we do twelve months a year. |
