Broughton Foods and Washington Morgan Community Action Announce the 2006 Ice Cream For America Celebration!

July is National Ice Cream Month and the second Sunday in July is National Ice Cream Day. Broughton Foods, LLC will once again celebrate America’s love for ice cream by participating in the Ice Cream for America promotion.

For the past 22 years, Broughton Foods has sponsored an old-fashioned ice cream social to raise money for local organizations. To date, 30 organizations have benefited from approximately $340,000 raised since the first social in 1984. This year, Broughton Foods has teamed up with the Senior Nutrition Program of Washington-Morgan Community Action and the O’Neill Senior Center. The money raised will be used to establish a senior computer learning center at the O’Neill Senior Center and to support the home delivered meal program of the Senior Nutrition Program.

The 23rd Annual Ice Cream Social will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds, Sunday, July 9, from 2:00- 6:00 pm. For a small donation, social participants may eat all the ice cream and drink all the lemonade and ice tea desired while enjoying an afternoon of non-stop entertainment.

Tickets are $2.00 in advance or $2.50 if purchased the day of the social. The July 9th activities will be family oriented and will include entertainment for everyone. Participants are welcome to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the day in Civitan Park.

Over 50 Broughton’s employees, more than 100 members of local service organizations, and members of the O’Neill Senior Center and the Senior Nutrition Program of Washington-Morgan Community Action will staff the serving booths. Broughton Foods donates all the ice cream, lemonade, and ice tea along with the necessary supplies and equipment. Therefore, every dollar donated goes directly to the O’Neill Senior Center and Washington-Morgan Community Action. As in the past, the J.M. Smucker Company will donate the toppings for more than 10,000 sundaes. Using their own special recipe, the Marietta Brewing Company will be back, donating the locally-brewed root beer used to make over 5,000 floats.

Tickets are on sale now at the locations listed below.
