Washington-Morgan Community Action Executive Director David Brightball accepts a $1,000 donation from Joe McNamee, treasurer of the Marietta Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1823, for the Home Delivered Meals program that provides over 56,000 meals a year to homebound seniors in both Washington and Morgan Counties.

Washington Morgan Community Action Receives Donation from Marietta Moose Club

Washington-Morgan Community Action’s Senior Nutrition program received a $1,000 donation from the Marietta Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1823. The donation, received on February 22, will be used for the Home Delivered Meals program that provides over 56,000 meals and emergency food supplies a year to homebound seniors in both Washington and Morgan Counties.

“The cost of the program continues to rise as the cost of food and fuel increases,” said Carrie McNamee, director of Senior and Community Services. “The donation from the Moose Lodge helps the Senior Nutrition Program continue to be successful and ensures that area seniors do not go hungry.”

Since 1972, the Senior Nutrition Program at Washington-Morgan Community Action has been funded to provide hot, nutritious meals to citizens 60 years of age or older living in Washington and Morgan Counties. Program service settings include congregate and home delivered meals, depending upon the individual’s need. The program is also funded for nutrition education.

All meals in Washington County are prepared in Washington-Morgan Community Action’s kitchen, which is located in the lower level of the O’Neill Senior Center in Marietta. The meals for Morgan County are made at the kitchen in the Reiker Building in McConnelsville. Home delivered meal routes are located throughout Washington and Morgan County. Participants receive home delivered meals in the following areas: Marietta, Reno, Devola, Lower Salem, Whipple, Lowell, Beverly, Waterford, Newport, New Matamoras, Belpre, Barlow, Bartlett, Cutler, Little Hocking, McConnelsville, Malta, Stockport and the smaller surrounding areas.

Funding for the program is provided by the Washington County Senior Services Levy, Older Americans Act, Washington County United Way and the Mid Ohio Valley United Way Alliance.
