Kids at the New Matamoras summer feeding site take
part in a water relay to cool down on a hot day.
Free Summer Feeding Program for Kids

The excitement of summer is in the air and students are enjoying the time off from school. But for many students in the area, that means that they don't have access to the hot meals they receive during the school year. Many families rely on the hot lunch program at schools to keep their children fed throughout the year but it can be hard when the kids come home for the summer and no longer have that as an option. Washington-Morgan Community Action is working alongside the U.S. Department of Agriculture on their Summer Feeding Program to get children the meals they need.

Washington-Morgan Community Action has four sites around the two counties that provide free meals for kids ages 1 - 18. In Washington County there are two sites located at the old New Matamoras Elementary School in New Matamoras and at the Beverly Elementary School's playground in Beverly. In Morgan County there are two sites located at the Malta United Methodist Church in Malta and at the Morgan Metropolitan Housing Authority in McConnelsville.

The Summer Feeding Program will be running at all sites Monday through Friday from 11:30 - 1:00, June 7 through July 27 (closed July 4). All children between the ages of 1 and 18 are welcome to come and eat lunch and enjoy programming after lunch is finished. Activities will include sports, games, crafts, and speakers coming in from the community. Each site is run by an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer who will be serving the food and provding the activities for the day.
