Washington-Morgan Community Action announces the beginning of the HEAP/Summer Crisis Program (SCP) on Tuesday, July 1, 2014. The SCP will end August 31, 2014.
Applications will be taken in Washington County at 218 Putnam Street, Marietta, Monday - Friday 8:00 – 4:30, and in Morgan County at 50 Third St., Malta, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:00 – 4:00.
The primary purpose of this program is to give elderly, medically qualified, and/or households with a disconnection notice from an unregulated utility company one-time assistance with their electric bill for the summer months. Household income cannot exceed the 175% poverty income guidelines. The yearly income for a household of one person cannot exceed $20,422; two in household; $27,527 three; $34,632 and a household of four; $41,737. For each additional household member, add $7,105.
An income eligible household with a member who is sixty (60) years of age or older is eligible to receive a one-time payment on their current unpaid regulated utility electric bill and/or an air conditioner, with the benefit to not exceed $350 OR A one-time payment on their current unregulated utility electric bill and/or air conditioner, with the benefit not to exceed $400.
An income eligible household with a member who has a a chronic medical condition, verified by a licensed physician or registered practitioner and documented on a required state form that can be picked up in the WMCAP offices or faxed to physicians offices, is qualified to receive a one-time payment on their current unpaid regulated utility electric bill and/or an air conditioner with the benefit not to exceed $350 OR a one-time payment on their current unregulated utility electric bill and/or air conditioner, with the benefit not to exceed $400.
New this program year: An income eligible household with a disconnect notice on an unregulated utility electric bill is qualified to receive a one-time payment on their current disconnect notice and/or an air conditioner, with the benefit not to exceed $400. The bill must be in the name of a current household member.
Income eligible households are eligible to receive one air conditioner if total benefit including the air conditioner does not exceed $350 or $400 depending on the type of utility, and the household has not received an air conditioner in the last three years.
Households must bring the following documents to the required face-to face interview:
Income documentation for all households members 18 years of age or older for the past 13 weeks and/or 12 months
Social Security numbers for all household members regardless of age
Date of Birth for all household members regardless of age
Copies of both bills for the main heating and electric utility source
Documentation of Medical condition (if applicable)
Documentation of co-payment if required
Proof of disability (if applicable)
